How It Started
Seán's journey into cycling advocacy began in 2010 while working on sustainable transport initiatives with Dublin City Council. That's when he realized something: nobody was really talking about cycling infrastructure from an older adult's perspective. The reports were all about commuters and fitness enthusiasts. Where were the voices of people who'd been cycling their whole lives but felt left behind by modern urban design?
After completing his degree in Environmental Studies at University College Dublin, he spent three years doing fieldwork across Cork, Dublin, and Galway. Not just desk research—actual time on the ground, testing routes, documenting problems, and most importantly, listening to older cyclists. His breakthrough work on St Stephen's Green's cycle paths and their accessibility challenges got published in several Irish cycling publications, establishing him as someone who actually understood the real challenges seniors face.
What really drives his work is witnessing firsthand how proper cycling infrastructure can transform independence and quality of life. He's interviewed over 200 seniors about their cycling experiences, the barriers they encounter, and what would genuinely make a difference. It's not abstract policy work—it's personal. It's about helping people rediscover mobility, confidence, and the joy of riding a bike.
At clemsonwager Ltd as Senior Cycling & Accessibility Correspondent, he combines this rigorous on-the-ground testing with evidence-based reporting and genuine empathy. His approach has made him a recognized authority on safe cycling routes and bike-sharing accessibility for seniors across Ireland.
